This post is part of Notes on a Good Life — a series of intimate, soulful reflections from This Life is Good's founder. It weaves storytelling with wisdom to bring you thoughtful insights and soulful practices that invite you to pause, shift perspective, and discover simple ways to thrive.
By mid-January, many people have already let go of their New Year’s resolutions. It’s so common there’s even a name for it: Quitters Day!
It's one of the many reasons I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions.
If you're one of the many millions of people who's already let go of your New Year's resolutions — don't despair — there's still hope!
Quitting New Year's resolutions may be a good thing, if it gives us a chance to re-orient in a more intentional and thoughtful way.
One of the best ways to re-orient is to engage in reflection and intention setting, before setting goals.
Starting the year with intention and reflection is a practice I have found to be deeply nourishing. This time last year marked the halfway point of 30 Days of Thriving — a 30-day Quest of self-reflection and well-being practices I designed to help myself and others start the year on the right foot.
While it was a hugely rewarding and nourishing experience, it was also an intense one. It required a significant level of time, commitment, and emotional capacity to see, feel, and process all that rose to the surface — even for me, a trained and certified health and well-being and lifestyle medicine coach who is also highly reflective by nature.
P.S. - If you’re curious, you can check out last year’s 30 Days of Thriving Day 17 & 18 practice here: https://www.thislifeisgood.com/what-are-you-ready-to-release/
This year, I’ve designed two reflection and intention experiences that are less time-consuming and, I hope, more accessible — but just as powerful: the New Year, New Start 2026 Quest and IntentionHaus™ 2026.
If you've already 'fallen off the wagon' with your New Year's resolutions, the good news is that quitting New Year's resolutions gives you the perfect opportunity — and permission — to pause, re-orient, and start fresh.
I hope that you take the time and space to pause, reflect, and re-orient before rushing head first into 2026. Because thriving doesn't happen by accident - it happens by design — with intention at the heart of every choice.
Till next time,
Be well ❤️
